Harrier Fields,  Uncategorized

Final stop….

20140719_109…on our “magical, mystery Devon tour”:  Mike Scannell’s Harrier Fields Farm.  He’s pictured with Dee Dee King, a new friend we met along the way.  Mike probably holds the world’s record for Devon prices…..$36,000 for a cow-calf at the NADA sale a few years back.

Mike and Joan Harris are still recovering from a devastating fire that destroyed an historic barn on their property a few years back.  However, that certainly hasn’t slowed them down.

Their new herd bull, Dundee, (think Crocodile), is an embryo bull from the Tiranna herd in Australia.  Tragically, most of the embryos were in a canister lost in the fire but Dundee, alone, will certainly further elevate this already top-drawer herd.  Mike has two young, polled bulls coming along as well,  which also are bound to add to his reputation.

Harrier Field animals are known for their handling-ease as well, and that’s due to the patient work of Joan.  And Joan, herself, is also known as a talented artwork.  Her studio was a must-stop for Wooz, who again came away with some Harris artwork which required careful care all the way home.  But she says she left a few beautiful paintings of Devon you may wish to check out

Again, with Mike Scannell, as with Don Minto and John Forelle, we go back to the founding of NADA and long hours devoted to the Board.  Those days are over but we’re grateful that all the friendships live on.
