And the winner is….

….Carolyn Lumb and her husband, Alan, of Markham, Virginia.  The Lumbs entered the drawing for the 8-pound standing rib roast from Thistle Hill at the annual Hume Day event in late September.

This will be their first time sampling pure, grass fed Devon beef from Thistle Hill and we look forward to their reaction.  From the look on the faces of the family dogs, it would appear they think they were the real winners.  That’s Wooz on the right making the presentation.

We’d like to admit now that the acceptance of our beef has exceeded all our expectations.  Our freezers are bare (like the proverbial shoemaker, we have no beef) and it could be as much as a month before we have more meat to sell.  The demand for our pork has also been very great and customers have ordered halves and two have even asked for whole pigs!

We have upped our production of steers intended strictly for beef but they won’t be available until next year.  Until now, meat was only incidental to our seed stock business selling live animals to other Devon breeders.  But we do very much believe in the benefits of healthy, grass fed, chemical- and  hormone- free beef and so we are going to do our very best to supply your needs, though it certainly wasn’t in our original plan a few years back.

And if you’d like to be on our email mailing list to be sure you’re alerted when the next meat supply is available, just drop us a quick note at devon@thistlehill.net.  Right now we have almost 100 regular customers for our meats, so please be sure to move quickly when we announce that beef or pork is available to be sure you’re not left out.
