{"id":4686,"date":"2016-01-22T05:32:47","date_gmt":"2016-01-22T10:32:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thistlehill.net\/wpblog\/?p=4686"},"modified":"2016-01-22T05:32:47","modified_gmt":"2016-01-22T10:32:47","slug":"buddy-is-in-the-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thistlehill.net\/wpblog\/buddy-is-in-the-house\/","title":{"rendered":"Buddy is in the house!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thistlehill.net\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/12510455_1217922451555776_2772238039936920228_n.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4687\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-4687\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thistlehill.net\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/12510455_1217922451555776_2772238039936920228_n-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"12510455_1217922451555776_2772238039936920228_n\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Thanks to son Church Matthews on several levels.\u00a0 To explain:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Buddy&#8221; is this two-week old calf, a twin rejected by his mother that we brought into the garage and bottle-fed.\u00a0 In addition to being orphaned, he also had a serious infection that had crippled him and left him mostly blind.\u00a0 That required we &#8220;break protocol&#8221; and use antibiotics.<\/p>\n<p>Several days ago, we put him outside in a protected pen and permitted some of our nursing cows to visit&#8230;.hoping for an &#8220;adoption&#8221;.\u00a0 It didn&#8217;t happen.<\/p>\n<p>And now, with up to three-feet of snow in our forecast this weekend, we decided we needed him where we could be sure we could get at him.\u00a0 But as you can see, Buddy has thrived on the bottle.\u00a0 He&#8217;s added at least 10 pounds, all of it muscle.\u00a0 So Church volunteered to come out from town, pick him up and drive him back in the Gator.<\/p>\n<p>Buddy seemed to welcome the return to his warmer digs and we can devote our full attention to the cows still calving in the face of the approaching blizzard.\u00a0 (One was going into labor last night)\u00a0\u00a0Then we&#8217;ll have to find a more permanent solution for our spoiled &#8220;big baby&#8221;&#8230;.perhaps a 4-H adoption.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to son Church Matthews on several levels.\u00a0 To explain: &#8220;Buddy&#8221; is this two-week old calf, a twin rejected by his mother that we brought into the garage and bottle-fed.\u00a0 In addition to being orphaned, he also had a serious infection that had crippled him and left him mostly blind.\u00a0 That required we &#8220;break protocol&#8221; and use antibiotics.
