{"id":419,"date":"2012-01-25T07:48:09","date_gmt":"2012-01-25T12:48:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thistlehill.net\/wpblog\/?p=419"},"modified":"2012-01-25T07:48:09","modified_gmt":"2012-01-25T12:48:09","slug":"where-do-we-go-from-here","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thistlehill.net\/wpblog\/where-do-we-go-from-here\/","title":{"rendered":"Where do we go from here&#8230;."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thistlehill.net\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/20120125_3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-420\" title=\"20120125_3\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thistlehill.net\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/20120125_3-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;.that&#8217;s what a group of us who have been involved in the Holistic Management pilot project met to discuss last night.\u00a0 To eliminate the suspense, we all quickly voted to continue.<\/p>\n<p>The idea behind the project is to demonstrate that a farm can be management without all the usual inputs of fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides and even grain.\u00a0 And without, hay, too, which is by far the biggest expense in raising cattle.\u00a0 Two of our colleagues said they had made good progress in their grazing: both were still basically on grass and one said he&#8217;d cut his hay costs in half.\u00a0 The remainder were\u00a0all satisfied they had made a significant improvement in their pastures and vowed to catch up with the leaders this year.<\/p>\n<p>Going forward with the &#8220;hands-on&#8221; help of Holistic Management International may be difficult, though.\u00a0 HMI invested about $40,000 in this pilot project training us guinea pigs and our discussion centered on ways of cutting costs and finding additional funding.\u00a0 Our little band will have no problem going ahead on our own but we all agreed we&#8217;d like to see a new class of inductees to help us spread the news of this natural and traditional and healthy way of farming.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;.that&#8217;s what a group of us who have been involved in the Holistic Management pilot project met to discuss last night.\u00a0 To eliminate the suspense, we all quickly voted to continue.
