{"id":283,"date":"2011-12-02T21:42:10","date_gmt":"2011-12-03T02:42:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thistlehill.net\/wpblog\/?p=283"},"modified":"2011-12-02T21:52:29","modified_gmt":"2011-12-03T02:52:29","slug":"the-interloper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thistlehill.net\/wpblog\/the-interloper\/","title":{"rendered":"The interloper&#8230;."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Despite the disappointing results of the recent sale of Rotokawa bulls, we were pleased to see that one young bull did quite well.\u00a0 However, he was not out of a Rotokawa cow, but one that calls Thistle Hill &#8220;home&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-284\" title=\"335gthumb\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thistlehill.net\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/335gthumb-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>Her name is the not-very-melodious &#8220;180&#8221; and she&#8217;s shown here nursing another of her bull calves at Thistle Hill.\u00a0 We smile when we hear other breeds claim their cows can wean close to half their weight.\u00a0 180 can do that with half an udder.<\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s something special, no doubt.\u00a0 Visitors invariably single her out as one of our best cows.\u00a0 A western cattleman, Steve Campbell of Idaho, took one look at her awhile back and pronounced her our &#8220;Wow Cow&#8221;!<\/p>\n<p>If there&#8217;s a problem, it&#8217;s been that 180 seems to specialize in bulls.\u00a0 Eleven so far and only one heifer.
