\"20130503_13\"<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0 ….the second pass over the new grass and we’re still moving them quickly.\u00a0 The plan is to cover every pasture (but one) within 21 days.\u00a0 The “one” is our Italian rye pasture, intended for the steers but they didn’t get the memo.<\/p>\n

We put\u00a0the steers on the “special” grass earlier this week.\u00a0 By the end of the next day, they had found their way through to wire fences and across a creek to\u00a0re-join the main herd.\u00a0 I can hear Ian saying:\u00a0 “Of course, dummy.”\u00a0\u00a0Maybe there’s a book in that:\u00a0 Grazing for Dummies.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

But I’m a fast learner, the next time the rotation takes the herd to the Italian rye, they’ll all go in for the feast.<\/p>\n

When we slow up in about a week, we’ll begin Thistle Hill’s version of mob grazing.\u00a0 This pasture has had no fertilizer since we began this “experiment” more than two years ago.<\/p>\n

And about the cow\/calf:\u00a0 the cow is THF T3 “Favorite<\/em>” by Rotokawa 93.\u00a0 The hungry young one is THF 108 by THF U2.\u00a0 This is his first group of calves and he and we are very pleased.<\/p>\n
