{"id":2029,"date":"2013-04-30T09:45:32","date_gmt":"2013-04-30T13:45:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thistlehill.net\/wpblog\/?p=2029"},"modified":"2013-04-30T09:57:41","modified_gmt":"2013-04-30T13:57:41","slug":"updating-our-british-newcomers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thistlehill.net\/wpblog\/updating-our-british-newcomers\/","title":{"rendered":"Updating our British newcomers&#8230;."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;.we spent several days recently inspecting our British calves at Doyle Unruh&#8217;s farm in Georgia&#8230;and our older heifers just across the state line at Bill and Nancy Walker&#8217;s farm in South Carolina.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thistlehill.net\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/20130428_2731-e1367328458385.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-2033\" alt=\"20130428_273\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thistlehill.net\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/20130428_2731-e1367328458385-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>This is an <em>Essington<\/em> <em>Buttercup<\/em> son by <em>Millennium Falcon<\/em>, now almost six months old.\u00a0 Doyle will be holding him on his recipient mother for a few more months.<\/p>\n<p>His half-brother, a <em>Goldings Norah<\/em> son also by <em>Falcon<\/em>, has an interesting story.\u00a0 Recently our partner in Cornwall, England, Juliet Cleave, posted a picture on her Facebook page of an outstanding young bull .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thistlehill.net\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/20130428_2951.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-2026\" alt=\"20130428_295\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thistlehill.net\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/20130428_2951-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>The picture was taken in 1963 and other than the name&#8212;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <em>Uggaton Highwayman 2nd<\/em>&#8212;she was asking if someone had information about him.<\/p>\n<p>Wooz checked pedigrees and found that &#8220;our&#8221; <em>Norah<\/em> cow had\u00a0the Uggaton herd in her background.\u00a0 So she went back still farther in the records and, sure enough, there was <em>Highwayman<\/em>!\u00a0 So this young bull in Georgia comes from even more distinguished ancestors.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thistlehill.net\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/15107_10200907173392369_462729533_n-e1367328888611.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-2012\" alt=\"15107_10200907173392369_462729533_n\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thistlehill.net\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/15107_10200907173392369_462729533_n-e1367328888611-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ivan Rowe, <em>Norah&#8217;s<\/em> breeder, remembers the bull and is now searching to learn whatever\u00a0became of\u00a0the breeder and herd that developed this magnificent animal.<\/p>\n<p>Incidentally, while we were in Georgia, embryologist Randall Hinshaw\u00a0implanted 10 more embryos in Doyle&#8217;s recipient herd.\u00a0 So there&#8217;s more to come!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;.we spent several days recently inspecting our British calves at Doyle Unruh&#8217;s farm in Georgia&#8230;and our older heifers just across the state line at Bill and Nancy Walker&#8217;s farm in South Carolina.
