{"id":1985,"date":"2013-04-18T08:25:00","date_gmt":"2013-04-18T12:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thistlehill.net\/wpblog\/?p=1985"},"modified":"2013-04-18T08:28:20","modified_gmt":"2013-04-18T12:28:20","slug":"a-light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thistlehill.net\/wpblog\/a-light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel\/","title":{"rendered":"A light at the end of the tunnel&#8230;."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;.signaling the demise of ethanol?<\/p>\n<p>The corn-based product has been probably the worst fraud environmentalists have inflicted on us.\u00a0 Ethanol is more of a pollutant than the gasoline it&#8217;s supposed to help clean up.\u00a0 And meeting the so-called\u00a0&#8220;demand&#8221; has driven up the price of corn to the point where it&#8217;s caused starvation in\u00a0the rest of the world&#8230;and food riots.<\/p>\n<p>I put the word &#8220;demand&#8221; in quotes because there&#8217;s no real demand&#8230;.just a government mandate.\u00a0 Fuel companies have been ordered to use more ethanol than they need or buy &#8220;ethanol credits&#8221;.\u00a0 (A Texas sharpie was recently convicted of selling credits for an ethanol plant that existed only in his imagination.\u00a0 Bilked companies out of more than 40-million bucks.)<\/p>\n<p>Of course, since most cattlemen feed corn to their cows, it pushes up the cost of meat (not to mention breakfast cereals).\u00a0 And despite the fact that corn farmers can&#8217;t find enough places to put all the money they&#8217;re making&#8230;thus the huge run-up in farm land prices in the desert&#8230;the government continues to subsidize corn.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, a few lawmakers have decided to risk the wrath of the politically-correct and cut off the money machine.\u00a0 Well, some of it anyway.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.the-american-interest.com\/wrm\/2013\/04\/11\/is-the-end-in-sight-for-americas-biofuel-boondoggle\/\">http:\/\/blogs.the-american-interest.com\/wrm\/2013\/04\/11\/is-the-end-in-sight-for-americas-biofuel-boondoggle\/<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;.signaling the demise of ethanol?
