\"\"<\/a>….by adding all-weather water points.\u00a0 These non-freeze waterers (if there is such a word) will give us greater flexibility to move our herd around.\u00a0 Neighbor Herman Harlow is at the controls of the back hoe and I’m imitating a highway construction crew.<\/p>\n

Herman has done a lot of site work for us over the years and I’m always fascinated by how precisely he can maneuver that big claw.\u00a0 Even more amazing is how he can level the bottom of a deep hole from his perch in the back hoe.\u00a0 I used to check with a level but no more.<\/p>\n

After a good freeze, the nutritional value of our fescue grass actually improves.\u00a0 But the cows won’t travel that far from their usual water supplies and leave their calves behind.\u00a0 Or if they do, they forgot where they put the calves.\u00a0 Unlike children, calves “stay put” where momma told them to hide.\u00a0 They’re hard to find and harder to reunite.<\/p>\n

So we’ll have healthier grass and healthier cows and calves.\u00a0 Even healthier.<\/p>\n
